The Lady Braves softball team started the 2010 season with a 10-1
road victory over Southmont. Sophmore Marissa Stout pitched 6 innings,
allowing 1 run. Freshman Shelby Scamihorn got the offense going with a
solo shot in her first high school at bat. All nine starters got a hit
with Junior Kaitlyn Pluta getting 3 hits and Senior Kayla Price had 3
RBI’s.
The Lady Braves return to action Monday with a doubleheader at Casey (IL).
CLOVERDALE – They say that some people find their destiny, while others know it from the start. In either case, it is a rare privilege to spend your life in daily pursuit of that you know you were meant to do.
It is an even more precious gift to be one of the very best at what you choose to devote your life performing. Coach Pat Rady has experienced both of those treasures. Rady has spent 46 years doing the only thing he ever wanted to do: roaming the sidelines of a high school basketball court.
Along the way, he has won 700 games and placed his alongside names like Crawley, Sharpe, and Butcher. He is an icon of the game.
Rady won his 700th game in Cloverdale’s regular-season finale versus Eminence. This Putnam County community is the fifth stop in Rady’s legendary career (he’s also made stops at Terre Haute South and Shelbyville, among others), and also a return to his boyhood home. It is fitting this humble man should end his reign in the place where his love for the game first blossomed.
The end, however, does not appear to be in sight. Rady plans to return for a 47th year on the bench next season.
I sat down with this giant of the game to talk about the long and special journey he has taken. On this page are a series of videos showing coach Rady talking about various aspects of his life in coaching. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into one of Indiana high school basketball’s greatest figures …
Terre Haute South disposed of Mooresville 60-39 in the Braves’ first game at the Plainfield sectional on Tuesday night. Three Braves scored in double figures including Ike Worrell who had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jermaine Smith and Jacob Tanoos each added 11 points as well. The Braves will resume sectional play on Friday night when they play Northview.
Anyone who
questions whether swimming is a team sport need look no further than this year’s
state finals. #2 Carmel upset #1 Munster for the title at the IU Natatorium on
Saturday. The Greyhounds did so by exhibiting superior depth.
Carmel won
only two events in the meet. Matt Gerth took the 200 Freestyle and the
Greyhounds captured the 400 Freestyle Relay. Nonetheless, most observers
predicted Carmel had the meet in its back pocket before the finals even took
place. They came through preliminaries with a tidal wave of swimmers in
position to score points and they did not disappoint in the finals.
Carmel took
the title with 245 points. Munster was second with 217 followed by Chesterton.
Three other MIC teams fared well in the standings. North Central finished
seventh with 90 points. Terre Haute South cracked the top 20, ending 18th
with 41 points. Lawrence North was 24th overall with 31 points on
the board.
Here is a
look at the complete team standings. Individual results are on the Hoosier
Authority home page.
