BA: Terre Haute schools will meet for sectional title

Staff Report

The best way
to take the fight out of an opponent is to answer immediately when they
threaten. That is exactly what Terre Haute South did Monday evening in downing
Northview 5-3 to advance to the final game of the Martinsville Sectional. They
will, as expected, face city rival Terre Haute North for the title.

Northview
took a 2-0 lead in the second off of Braves’ starter Tyler Goodman. South then
immediately answered with a five run outburst in its next at bat. A two run
double by A.J. Buck and a subsequent two run homer from Jacob Hayes were the
big blows in the frame.

Goodman
pitched out of trouble repeatedly during the game. He struck out six and walked
none in the victory.

Sophomore John Robert Patterson pitched North
into the final. He allowed only three hits and pitched his way past some sloppy
Patriot defense. Dougie Collett hit a second inning home run to get the offense
started, and North prevailed over Plainfield 7-4.

GT: Terre Haute South and Carmel to represent MIC in State Finals

Staff Report

The State
Finals will have a definite MIC flavor this Saturday. Carmel, as expected,
played its way into the field Monday evening by downing Park Tudor 3-2.
Quietly, conference rival Terre Haute South will join the Greyhounds in the
final four.

Carmel
(17-1) will face Munster in the first round. The Mustangs enter with an
identical record. That is certainly the match that will attract the most
attention this week leading up to Saturday. However, both Terre Haute South and
Homestead, the combatants in the other semi-final match, will actually enter
the finals undefeated on the season. South is 21-0 while Homestead is 18-0.

As usual, the finals will be held at the tennis
center at North Central High School. The semi-finals will begin at 10AM and the
final is scheduled for one o’clock
