W: MIC fails to claim any team titles in sectional competition

Staff Report

The MIC once
again performed admirably in wrestling sectionals across central Indiana this
past Saturday. However, the ranks of conference squads were thinned a little
more than usual in this first round of tournament competition. Bo league school
captured a sectional title, but four claimed second place finishes. They
include Carmel, North Central, Ben Davis, and Center Grove. As a result, the
conference is shut out of team regional competition this season.

Carmel came
the closest of anyone to staking a berth in the regional round for teams. The
Greyhounds lost to Hamilton Southeastern by just 2.5 points in the Zionsville
Sectional. They advanced nine wrestlers to individual competition at the
regional level and crowned six champions.

North
Central finished second behind Cathedral at the Lawrence Central Sectional. The
Panthers fell 20 points short of the Irish. They also headed a list of
MIC schools in the standings. Lawrence North was third. North Central advanced 11 individuals and
crowned four champions. LN had ten wrestlers advance and took three crowns.

Center Grove
was second at Mooresville. The Trojans advanced nine wrestlers and claimed
three champions. Ben Davis was also a runner-up. The Giants trailed only Perry
Meridian at the Decatur Central Sectional. They advanced a whopping 12
individuals and took two titles.

Warren
Central finished fourth in the strong Shelbyville Sectional. The Warriors
advanced just six wrestlers into regional competition, but four of those were
champions. At Northview, Terre Haute South ended third in the team standings.
The Braves crowned two champions and advanced eight wrestlers. City rival North
was fifth and advanced four wrestlers with one champion.

If you were
keeping track, that totals 76 MIC wrestlers who will compete at the regional
level, 23 of who hold sectional championships.
