Second-ranked Carmel won titles in four of the five divisions May 8 to easily capture the crown at the 2010 Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference Tournament at Ben Davis.
With victories everywhere except No. 3 singles, the defending state champion Greyhounds rolled up 53 points in winning the school’s fourth conference championship. Sixth-ranked Terre Haute South, which had the day’s other winner in Maddie Kesler, finished second with 32 points, just ahead of No. 13 Center Grove (31).
No. 14 Terre Haute North (24) placed fourth, with No. 22 North Central (Indianapolis) (18) fifth and Lawrence North (14) six in the eight-team event.
Bringing home first-place finishes for Carmel in singles were sisters Courtney Wild at No. 1 and Haley Wild at No. 2, along with the duo of Susie Chen & Sarah Rodefeld at No. 1 doubles and Olivia Trancik & Annika Carlson at No. 2 doubles (see complete results below).
“The team played very well to represent Carmel in the MIC tournament,” said Carmel coach Sharon Rosenburgh. “Our No. 3 singles loss in the first round was a three-set match, with Amanda Nguyen losing 11-9 in the third set to the eventual MIC champion (Kesler).
“It was a fantastic contribution to the day’s results.”
