It is known
as the sectional that is never won by the favorite. This time, Terre Haute
South made sure it was. The Braves downed Mooresville 42-35 Saturday night to
claim the crown at the Terre Haute North Sectional. Bucking tradition was not
easy.
Terre Haute
South trailed 35-33 midway through the fourth quarter. Then the Braves’
defense, and two injured stars, took control of the contest. The final run
began when Jake Odum hit John Michael Jarvis for a three pointer that put Terre
Haute South ahead 36-35. Both of the Braves’ guards were playing on injured
ankles. After milking the clock for more than a minute on the next possession,
Odum stepped to the line and drained two charity tosses to put the Braves up by
three. The defense took over from there,
holding the Pioneers scoreless the rest of the way.
Odum led
Terre Haute South with 23 points and eight rebounds.
