Center Grove spent the weekend re-paying a debt and then
winning the Perry Meridian sectional. Terre Haute South spent the weekend
fighting for their lives and then winning their own sectional. The two teams
are the only MIC squads to advance to regional play this coming weekend.
Center Grove had been waiting for a year for the sectional
rematch with Perry Meridian. The Falcons upset the Trojans last year, ending
Center grove’s stranglehold on that sectional. Coach Deb McClurg and her
charges were looking for retribution. They got it, but it certainly wasn’t
easy. The Trojans defeated Perry Meridian in three games in the semi-final
round Saturday afternoon. The scores indicate the intensity of this one. Center
Grove prevailed 25-21, 26-20, 26-24. The championship match was far less of a
battle. The Trojans dispatched of
in three games 25-15, 25-19, and 26-11.
The championship sends Center Grove into the state’s
premiere 4A regional this coming Saturday. The Trojans will host the event.
Center grove will face Hamilton Southeastern in the opening round. It marks the
Royals first trip to regional competition since 1992. The other half of the
bracket features powerhouses
Indianapolis Cathedral.
Terre haute South emerged from a nerve fraying sectional on
home ground. Of the five matches played in the tournament, three of them went
the five game distances and the other two went four games. The Braves were
involved in one of the five game nail biters. They defeated traditional power
games in the semi-finals. South then dispatched of Northview in the finals in
four hard fought games. 22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-19.
The Braves now head to
for regional play. They will meet #5 Floyd Central in the second semi-final.
Castle and Columbus East will tangle in the other half of the bracket.
